Why EKOOLOGY

Better for the grill. Better for the forest.

Produced by slow pyrolysis from invasive acacia, EKOOLOGY biochar has over 94% fixed carbon — and that changes everything about your barbecue.

🔥

Higher calorific power

Far superior to traditional charcoal: you use less charcoal per barbecue and spend less.

Lights faster

Less waiting, more time at the table. Embers ready in 15–20 minutes, with no chemicals.

💨

Less smoke and sparks

Very low moisture and high fixed carbon: clean, stable, safe embers.

No dust or fines

Quality control removes dust and small particles. What you buy is real charcoal.

🌿

Clean embers

Slow pyrolysis strips the wood's volatile compounds. Clean flavour, healthy cooking.

🌲

Cleans the forest

Made from invasive acacia: every bag removes wildfire fuel and gives space back to native species.

What drives us

The charcoal that brings people together.

A barbecue was never just food. It's the Sunday that gathers three generations at the same table, the street party that gets the whole neighbourhood dancing, the friends who stay until the embers die out. We make the charcoal; you make the party.

The story

From acacia to ember.

The journey every EKOOLOGY bag makes — from invaded forest to your grill.

  1. The invader

Acacia is one of Portugal's most invasive species: it smothers the native forest, dries out the soil and burns like gunpowder.

  2. The clearing

In Penacova we remove acacia from the forest: every bag takes wildfire fuel away and gives space back to native species.

  3. Solar pyrolysis

We turn it into what it does best — dense, high-energy wood — through slow pyrolysis powered by solar energy. The result: over 94% fixed carbon.

  4. The ember

More heat, less smoke and embers that last. And, in partnership with WWF Portugal (ANP), a percentage of sales funds the reforestation of cleared areas.
