Our why

Your embers have superpowers.

Acacia is one of the worst invaders of the Portuguese forest: it smothers native species, impoverishes the soil and burns like gunpowder. We turn it into embers — and by grilling, you help remove it.

The problem

The silent invasion

🌳

It smothers the native forest

Acacia (dealbata and melanoxylon) grows fast, takes over everything and stops oaks, cork oaks and strawberry trees from growing.

🔥

It fuels wildfires

Dense, resinous wood in thick, continuous scrub: acacia patches are motorways for fire.

💧

It dries out the soil

It consumes huge amounts of water and alters soil chemistry, making ecosystem recovery hard even after removal.

Our answer

A virtuous circle, bag by bag

Remove

We buy acacia wood from forest-clearing operations — giving economic value to invasive removal that would otherwise be left undone.

Transform

Slow pyrolysis powered by solar energy converts the wood into high-purity biochar with no waste: even the process heat is recovered.

Replant

In partnership with WWF Portugal (ANP), a percentage of sales funds the reforestation of cleared areas with native species.

Protect

Less acacia means less wildfire fuel near villages and more room for the forest we want to leave our children.

Who we clean the forest for

A forest to celebrate

We don't remove acacia for sustainability reports — we do it so Portuguese families keep having a place for the Sunday picnic, with the native forest above and the embers below, in safety.

Every bag you buy brings that picture closer.
